You Can Do All Things!
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
Over the years, Faith and I have had a bit of a rocky relationship. As a child, I was taught faith is "the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen." However, I never truly knew what that meant until I became an adult. Don't get me wrong, faith and having faith has always been important to me, but as I grew older, I began to see what having faith truly means. For example, I can remember being in anticipation as my fourth-grade teacher prepares to announce the winner of a special prize for our class. I also remember the anticipation of just wanting my name to be called and believing that something as simple as a toy could be mine. Imagine the joy I felt when my name was called as the winner. It may not seem like much, but it was a foundation for me. There was a confidence that came at that moment, even though there was a chance I would not win.
As an adult, my faith was tested differently because, as an adult, I can honestly say that things did not go my way most of the time. However, there was never a time when I didn't feel God's hand on me. Even as I write this, the meaning of "Faith without work is dead" becomes even more evident as I look back on my journey because I begin to learn about speaking faith and walking in faith. I saw this when are prepared to buy my first house. This process took seven years to manifest in natural. I believe it took this long because I would speak that I was getting a house, but I was not doing things that would produce that house in the natural. I was not saving, making sure my debt-to-income ratio was where it needed to be, or physically preparing to receive what my faith was asking for. Once I started to walk in faith and continue to speak over what I was believing in, my confidence grew. As my confidence grew, so did the assurance of my faith. From that, the vision of what was not seen manifested in front of me. I not only experienced blessings that come through having faith but gained a better understanding of it.
